For a great days adventure that is suitable for all ages join ‘Sand Safaris’ for a tour to Cape Reinga & 90 Mile Beach. We pride ourselves in showcasing the wonders of this Northland paradise with so many highlights on this full day tour. Enjoy panoramic views of Cape Reinga and its iconic lighthouse, the thrill of driving on 90 Mile Beach, the pure white sands of Exhibition Bay, sand boarding at Te Paki Stream & lunch at stunning Tapotupotu Bay.
Beginning the tour at Ahipara, we head to the Kauri Kingdom to view ancient Kauri wood that has been buried and preserved in swamps for more than 45,00 years.
Next we experience the wilderness, solitude and magnificence of driving the full length of 90 Mile Beach as you relax in our comfortable, air conditioned coaches provided with an informative commentary to enhance your tour. Hop off the bus to experience the vastness and wildness of this rugged West Coast with cliff faces drenched in wild surf and occasional sightings of wild horses in the Aupouri Forest before driving up the quicksand stream of Te Paki, heading to the giant sand dunes. Here we provide you with a free boogie board and all that is between you and the thrill of a lifetime is a climb up the expansive dunes….an opportunity not to be missed and fun for all ages.
Arriving at Cape Reinga and its iconic lighthouse you are treated to magnificent panoramic views as the two vast expanses of water of the Pacific and Tasman Oceans collide in a spit of fury below the lighthouse. This place is of huge spiritual significance to the local Maori as this is the place where the spirits of the dead leave Aotearoa and travel back to their homeland in Hawaiiki.
After working up an appetite lunch is provided at the stunning ‘Tapotuputu Bay’, nestled among the hills around Cape Reinga and one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in New Zealand. Here you have the opportunity to go for a swim or just sit back & relax and soak up the wonderful scenery creating memories that will last you a lifetime.
Heading back South we have more photo opportunities as we view the pure white sands of Great Exhibition Bay and other delights of the East Coast.
