Just 14 Kms west of Dargaville, Baylys Beach is situated on New Zealand’s longest drivable beach named by ‘Maori’ as ‘Ripiro Beach’. Approximately 112 kms in length of golden sand, remote high sand dunes, wild and remote it starts at New Zealand’s largest harbour in the Southern Hemisphere the Kaipara Harbour and extends to it’s northern tip at Maunganui Bluff.
Owned and operated by Bec Durant, The Baylys Beach horse riding treks cater for both experienced and inexperienced providing riders.with horse treks of 1, 2 or 3 hours.
We ride down the beach to suit the pace of your horse riding experience and ability, for the more experienced riders we can go to the top of the cliffs and be rewarded with amazing views, but for the inexperienced riders we stay on the beach. All of our treks are guided with an experienced rider who will tell you of the history of this part of the coastline with its shipwrecks and relics that are found on the beach. We sometimes see seals on the beach, stingrays swimming along the shoreline, mullet jumping through the water and a host of other varieties of seabirds. An amazing way of seeing and exploring the Ripiro Beach.
For safety reasons our return home along the beach is at walk only pace as the horses sometimes like to get home in a hurry.
Baylys Beach Horse Treks can operate up to twice daily and are dependent on weather and tides. We provide quiet horses with all the necessary safety gear and we brief you prior to your ride. Horse treks on the beach are restricted to children 14 yrs and up unless you are experienced. You ride at your own risk and you take full responsibility for your children.
