Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari
The Whale and Dolphin Safari tour departs from Auckland Viaduct harbour and leaves behind the hustle and bustle of Auckland city. As we cruise out through the Waitemata Harbour aboard ‘Dolphin Encounter’ you will hear a full commentary on culture and history as we head out into the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.
‘Dolphin Explorer’ was specifically designed for viewing of whales, dolphins and other marine life and is the most stable whale watching vessel in New Zealand offering visitors an exciting up-close encounter with marine wildlife in a natural environment. Front and rear outside decks offer great viewing and photo opportunities and the interior offers comfortable seating and great viewing.
This tour is like a safari in the fact that every trip is different in what we will encounter, the experienced crew have a 90% success rate of finding and viewing pods of dolphins that can vary from just a few to hundreds. Their beautiful colouration and playfulness around the boat and bow riding makes them both endearing and offers great photo opportunities.
Bryde’s whales are the more common whale found all year round in the Hauraki Gulf (75% success rate) and can grow to 15 metres in length, occasionally we may catch them in a feeding frenzy involving small school fish, dolphins and birds.
Orca and humpback whales are not as common, but when they do visit they’re always stunning to view.
The crew look forward to showing around the Haurakai Gulf and offer an onboard a licensed bar with light snacks available.
