Ben Lomond Horse Treks are located 15km from Queenstown, beside the beautiful Moke Lake, hidden within the mountains of the Ben Lomond Station. Here you will find the many horses of Ben Lomond Horse Treks waiting to take you on a special journey.
Guided by our friendly and knowledgeable staff, you will experience some of the most beautiful untouched New Zealand landscape on horseback.
We pride ourselves on providing unforgettable horse riding experiences for all ages and levels. Your safety is paramount, whether you are a first-timer or ‘born to the saddle’, we will carefully match each horse to it’s rider, and all gear is provided.
The shortest trek takes you on a 1.5 hour wander through the beautiful valley of the Ben Lomond Station. For a more adventurous ride you can choose to climb the mountains up to 200 meters above the valley floor, and make your way back through historical gold mining country. A gentle, walking paced hack through a beautiful working farm. Riding past Merino sheep and Angus cattle so close you could almost touch them and finishing the trek along the shore of Moke Lake for that perfect photo opportunity.
With plenty of river crossings to add to the adventure, this trek is perfect for beginners and families with younger children. Our well trained horses will look after family members as young as 5 years old. We can accommodate more experienced riders on this trek by splitting the group at the end of the ride.

The perfect trek for mixed ability couples, groups and families with older children. Trekking up the valley towards the Old Gold Country with many river crossings and finishing at beautiful Moke Lake. Explore 35,000 acres of the most impressive farmland the district has to offer, with high mountains and pristine lakes surrounding you for a magical experience. Also great for experienced riders that don’t have the time for our longer trek.

A trek with a view! Climb high over the Moonlight Valley passing historical Gold Mining sites ( try to spot the old stone cottages among the landscape) Like going back in time to when the main mode of transport was on horseback. Multiple river crossings on the way back down the canyon with ample opportunity to go for a canter. Due to the high mountain pass this trek is only suitable for intermediate to advanced riders. This trek will leave you with a lasting impression.
Riders on the McConnochies trek are expected to be able to competently control a horse without assistance, any riders who are not deemed not capable may have their trek altered to keep within the 3 hour time schedule.
Level: Intermediate and Experienced
Ages: 14 years and older.
(We will consider taking younger children if they are well experienced and confident riders.)
