With a maximum capacity of 8 per guide, Go Orange Kayaks offers fantastic small group overnight kayaking experiences in this remote wilderness area. We’ll take you to an untouched world of spectacular mountains, lush rain forests and dramatic landscapes.
Access to Doubtful Sound on all our kayak tours start with a cruise across Lake Manapouri by ferry and a coach across the Southern Alps via the Wilmot Pass. Here we’ll get changed and prepare the double sea kayaks and hit the water as soon as we can.

Doubtful Sound is commonly referred to as the sound of silence. Embark on an adventure like no other, immerse yourself and experience the serenity. Your past kayaking experiences won’t even come close to what you’re about to witness. Cross stunning Lake Manapouri by ferry then, by coach, cross the Southern Alps over the Wilmot Pass into Deep Cove. Get a taste of Doubtful Sound and all it can offer with 3 hours of paddling out on the fiord exploring Deep Cove, Rolla Island and over to Olphert Cove and return.
Doubtful Sound is home to unique birds, seals, dolphins and the very rare Fiordland Crested Penguin that are sometimes encountered on Rolla Island as we paddle around the shoreline. Kayaking is one of the best ways to capture these rare and unique photo opportunities.
If kayaking is not possible due to the weather we may substitute for a 3 hour inner fiord cruise experience.

This two day adventure connects you with nature in the spectacular wilderness of Doubtful Sound. There is no TV, no phones and no internet. Just you, your small group and your kayaks.
Doubtful Sound is home to unique birds, seals, dolphins and the very rare Fiordland Crested Penguin that are sometimes encountered as we paddle along the shoreline. Your itinerary is flexible and route dictated by the weather and your desire to explore. With around 5 hours of kayaking each day, you’ll get to truly appreciate the expanse and primordial beauty of the fiord. Our experienced and knowledgeable guides will make sure you see the best of Fiordland.
As you explore this wilderness, its hidden waterways and secluded islands, look out for the locals – seals, dolphins and penguins. If you’re lucky, you might even find yourself paddling in the company of dolphins!
In the evening you’ll camp amidst the forest next to a fresh water stream in Hall Arm. Relax along the shore as the long southern twilight descends in the fiord. Bring your own food – we’ll supply hot drinks and swap stories with your fellow travellers. And as night descends, lie on the beach and spend some time star gazing.
The next morning, you’ll explore more of the fiord before heading back under sail (weather permitting) by early afternoon.
