Hobbiton Movie Set offers an intriguing and exciting experience that includes the iconic film set of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, directed by New Zealander Sir Peter Jackson.
The most renowned was ‘The Shire,’ the home of the courageous hobbits, which attracted visitors from all over the world to see the famed Hobbit holes, as well as the Mill, The Green Dragon Pub, and other landmarks from the films.
Your guided tour begins with a scenic drive through our 1,250-acre working sheep farm with breathtaking views of the Kaimai Ranges. Examine Bag End, the location where Frodo and Bilbo’s adventures began.
Visit the Green Dragon Inn, the mill, and the Party Tree after becoming lost in the hobbit tunnels. You will see how this gorgeous section of Waikato farmland was turned into Middle-The earth’s Shire.
Daily tours depart at the Shires Rest Cafe every half hour between 9.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. (extended hours in summer). trips lasting around two hours in length.
With freshly prepared beverages available at the Green Dragon Inn when you conclude your tour, you can then return to The Shire Store and spend some time there.

The Shires Rest Cafe is a calm place to unwind with a nice cup of coffee and an extensive selection of New Zealand cuisine. We are a fully licenced establishment offering a wide variety of New Zealand beers and ciders.
Soak up the atmosphere of the converted woolshed, where you may unwind on the balcony while taking in the most breathtaking views of rural New Zealand.

This small group tour is an easy day trip from Auckland to the Hobbiton film location.
The day includes a comprehensive guided tour of the filming location from “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies. In addition to a delicious meal at the Shires Rest Cafe, we will reintroduce the lavish noon feast in the Party Marquee later in 2022.
From the time you’re picked up in Auckland City until the time you’re dropped off, our knowledgeable guides are at your service throughout the day.
They provide a comprehensive commentary throughout the journey, including information on the areas you are travelling through and the history of the film set you are seeing.
On the way down to Hobbiton, there is a quick stop at a local café if you would like to purchase some local baked goods or a coffee (or a “second breakfast,” as we like to call it).
At Hobbiton, you travel down to the actual set and are led on a walking tour of the 44 Hobbit holes by one of the specialised Hobbiton guides.
You will get the opportunity to have your portrait taken in the doorway of a Hobbit house, visit the Party Tree, and stand by the gate to Bilbo’s house, Bag End, with a view of the entire set and the far hills.
Before your feast in the Party Marquee** (included in the price), you cross the bridge besides the mill and enter the Green Dragon Inn for a complimentary ale, cider, or ginger beer.
After lunch, we’ll provide you with a $10 Hobbiton keepsake certificate to spend at the gift store before returning to Auckland before the afternoon rush hour.

This small group excursion visits Hobbiton and Waitomo Glow Worm Caves. The day includes a guided tour of Hobbiton and lunch at Shires Rest Cafe. In 2022, we’ll bring back the Party Marquee lunch buffet.

On the road to Hobbiton, we stop at a tiny cafe for a snack or coffee. Then we’ll transport you to Hobbiton, where a guide will show you the 44 Hobbit holes.
You may take a photo in a Hobbit house entryway, see the Party Tree, and stand by Bilbo’s Bag End gate overlooking the set and hills. Before your featured buffet lunch in the Party Marquee**, enjoy a free ale, cider, or ginger beer in the Green Dragon Inn.
After lunch, you’ll get a $10 Hobbiton souvenir certificate before heading to Waitomo caves. The drive to Waitomo Caves passes Lake Karapiro and Arapuni Dam.
At Waitomo Glow Worm Caves, an experienced guide will show you the limestone structures and glowworms.
Take a boat through the glowworm grotto after the cave tour (subject to water levels). Before leaving the cave, admire millions of southern hemisphere light worms.
After your Waitomo tour, we drive back to Auckland with a afternoon tea stop (own cost).
