More Information About The Waimangu Volcanic Valley and Steaming Cliffs Kayak Tour:
Meeting Point & Timing
- Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the meeting time at the Rotorua Information Centre.
- Allow approximately 5 hours for the round trip, including travel time to and from Rotorua.
Weather Policy
- We will notify you in advance if weather conditions are unsuitable for the tour. However, if regulations allow, the tour will proceed.
- Mother Nature sometimes wins, but we’ll do our best to ensure your adventure is safe and enjoyable.
Age & Supervision
- Suitable for participants aged 5 years and above.
- Guests aged 16 years and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult aged 18 years or older.
Kayak Information
- We use two-person sit-on-top kayaks, with a combined weight limit of 220kg per kayak.
What to bring:

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend bringing the following:
- A towel
- Bottled water
- A packed lunch (optional; food is also available for purchase at the Waimangu Café).
- Credit card, cash, or EFTPOS for food and drinks at the café.
- A waterproof camera (carried at your own risk).
- Clothing appropriate for the season:
- Summer (November to March): Quick-drying exercise clothing and a warm jumper.
- Winter (April to October): Pants/leggings for the lower half and at least three layers for the upper half (thermal, fleece, or wool).
- A rain jacket if rain is expected.
- Optional: A change of clothes (just in case).
