Windborne is a 62 ft. gaff rigged topsail schooner and a vessel of great character, charm, strength and comfort. Windborne has been sailing the world since 1928. she was rebuilt in New Zealand in 1981 to combine the finest of seafaring traditions with the comfort and safety of the 21th century
Whether you are looking for a day sail, sunset cruise or a private charter, sailing upon Windborne is an experience like no other.
Departing from Whitianga wharf, we’ll raise the sails and head off to some breath-taking places. You are welcome to help sail the old schooner, or sit back and relax-
keeping a lookout for dolphins, whales and a huge variety of other sea & bird life. Swimming, snorkelling, waterfalls, and picnic lunches are all part of a day spent on Windborne. An unbeatable experience and a day enjoyed by all.

Whitianga – Day Sailing Trip
Price: Adult $135 pp – Child $70 pp
Departs: 10:00 am
Sailing Duration: 6 Hours
We depart Whitianga Wharf at 10:00 and head out into Mercury Bay. Once our plan has been made, we’ll raise the sails and head off to some of the most spectacular coastal scenery that New Zealand has to offer.
You are welcome to help sail the old schooner to some of these breathtaking places – Cathedral Cove, Devil’s Point, Pink Beach and the Hole in the Wall, just to name a few.
Around Midday we head into a bay and drop anchor, so we can have lunch a swim and snorkel. When we set sail again we’ll keep a sharp lookout for dolphins, whales and a huge variety of other sea life.
Whitianga Sunset Sailing Cruise

Whether it’s just the two of you or with a group of friends, nothing beats spending a day on the true classic Windborne. What could be better after a day on the Coromandel than a sunset cruise aboard Windborne?
We leave from the Whitianga wharf at 5.00 pm and return around 8.00 pm.
Great Mercury Island Sailing Cruise
Price: Adult $195 pp – Child $150 pp
Departs: 08:00 am
Sailing Duration: 10 Hours
This is a big day out to one of the prettiest places on earth. We depart at 8:00 am for the 15 nautical mile journey.
It is way off other tourist routes and a real treat to experience. This cruise allows us to trim the sails and feel the old schooner healing with the wind.
Weather permitting, we head for Peach Grove, which we often have to ourselves. Once there, you have so many options.
You can swim or paddleboard ashore in the crystal clear water followed by a walk on the flawless beach.
You can then take a short jaunt through the bush to a stunning waterfall and enjoy a dip in the freshwater pool, whatever you choose to do. Native parrots, kaka and tui are abundant so you are sure to catch sight of these beautiful creatures along with seabirds and dolphins.
Private Sailing Charter Whitianga

Departs: 10:00 am
Sailing Duration: 6 Hours
Windborne is available for private functions such as weddings, birthdays, staff parties, reunions, sunset cruises and the like. Theme parties are also quite popular so let us know if you’d like to throw a pirate or south sea spirit celebration.
We can take a maximum of 24 guests for these one day events. These private day charters can be self-catered or can be organised depending on your budget and on the cuisine desired. Please feel free to discuss your ideas with us.
