Just 80 minutes drive from Christchurch, Akaroa harbour is one of the only places on the planet where you can swim with the Hector or New Zealand Dolphin, the smallest and rarest dolphin in the world.
EcoSeaker is a small friendly, family-owned business by operators Steve and Kerstin Hamilton. Steve, your skipper, is a 5th generation local and descendant of early French and Scottish settlers and an experienced dolphin swimming skipper and Department of Conservation dolphin tour operator.
They have been in the Akaroa Harbour for many years operating small Harbour Tours, which depart from Daly’s wharf in Akaroa township.

With a 90.5% success rate, this has to be the tour for you, complimented by providing warm wetsuits, mask & snorkel, hot chocolate & biscuits. Passengers wishing to view the dolphins only are also welcome on this trip.

To participate, you must have a basic level of swimming ability and be able to swim 50 meters without aids. Swimming to and from the boat and climbing the small entry ladder requires essential fitness. Please remember that swimming in the ocean is quite different from pool or beach swimming.

Some of the highlights of this tour are 1000-foot cliffs, Sea Arches, Amazing Volcanic Formations, Caves, Marine Farms, White Flippered Blue Penguins, Albatross and other seabirds, Akaroa Marine Reserve, Nikau Palm Gully and occasional Blowholes.
The boat is a fun, fast, adventurous 12.5-metre Rayglass Protector (an ex-America’s Cup Chase boat). Steve, the owner & captain, is a 5th generation local who knows the secrets of Akaroa Harbour. You will hear about the Volcanic and Maori history.
