Take a unique one-hour trip, get up up and personal with an alpaca, and seize the chance to lead one.
The barn serves beverages and home-baked biscuits, and The Alpaca Shop offers a range of 100% alpaca knitwear exclusive to Shamarra, all in natural colours.
After driving up to the large red barn, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the harbour before commencing the tour with an intriguing, educational, and participatory presentation about alpacas and their luxurious fibre. Frank and Anya have been alpaca farmers since 2004, when they moved from the Caribbean to New Zealand. They are enthusiastic about their alpacas and are eager to share their extensive experience with you.
You will be able to get up close and personal with our friendly alpacas and admire their distinct traits and ultra-fine fleece.
While these gorgeous creatures graze with their young, you will have the chance to lead an alpaca as you take a stroll around the paddocks and appreciate these animals.
Majestic animals contently grazing in their natural habitat. Anya is able to recall the names of each alpaca.
Don’t forget your camera to capture the panoramic vistas of Akaroa Harbour and the crater rim.
Enjoy a beverage and freshly baked cookies while visiting the Alpaca store, where you can purchase a variety of luxury alpaca clothes and accessories manufactured from the fibre of our alpacas and which are special to Shamarra.
