Your journey to the Te Anau Glowworm Caves begins with a half-hour cruise across Lake Te Anau to the western shores.

Here begin your glowworm cave tour, providing access to a unique tunnel system carved by water and home to hundreds of shimmering glowworms.

View the interesting displays and learn about the local geology before exploring the caverns. Once within the cave system, our knowledgeable guides will point out the features and share their knowledge of the caverns and their history with you.

You will be transported by a tiny boat deep within the caverns into a silent secret grotto populated by hundreds of glowworms.
The caverns are quite young (12,000 years) by geological standards and are still being carved out by the immense power of the river that flows through them. 

Consequently, a beautiful winding network of limestone corridors filled with carved rock, whirlpools, and a roaring underground cascade has developed over the years.

This 2-hour and 15-minute journey are available all year round throughout the day. This fantastic family adventure is appropriate for most people, except for babies and those who cannot negotiate the stooping and stairs necessary to explore the cave system.
