Dive deep into the mystical realm of glowworms to discover a fascinating underground world of water gushing through tunnels while drifting in silence beneath the bright shimmer of glowworms.
Your journey to the Te Anau Glowworm Caves begins with a half-hour sail across Lake Te Anau to the western shores to begin your glowworm cave tour, providing access to a unique tunnel system carved by water and home to hundreds of shimmering glowworms.
View the interesting displays and learn about the local geology before exploring the caverns. Once within the cave system, our knowledgeable guides will point out the features and share their knowledge of the caverns and its history with you. You will be carried by tiny boat deep within the caverns into a silent secret grotto populated by hundreds of glowworms.
The caverns are quite young (12,000 years) by geological standards and are still being carved out by the immense power of the river that flows through them. As a consequence, a beautiful winding network of limestone corridors filled with carved rock, whirlpools, and a roaring underground cascade has been created.
This 2 hour and 15 minute journey is available all year round throughout the day. This is a fantastic family adventure that is appropriate for most people, with the exception of babies and those who may be unable to negotiate the stooping and stairs necessary in exploring the cave system.
