Come and experience the vineyards of Nelson Tasman & Marlborough with Nelson Tours and Travel on one of our personally guided van tours, and sample local food, wine, cider and craft beer along the way. offering a wine tours with a difference. Tasting some funky craft beers, cider from the capital of cider and award winning family produced wine. Plus lunch at The Moutere Inn, New Zealand’s oldest pub.

Whether you’re a passionate wine connoisseur experiencing a new region, wanting to have a look around while tasting what we have to offer, or maybe simply like sharing a drink with friends both old and new!

The difference in our tours is that we have passion for quality and value, where you experience a tour with a local Kiwi guide. CJ will make sure you have a unique experience and visit the best of the best available on the day.  CJ is officially Nelson Tasman’s longest running wine tour guide at only 40 years old. CJ is also the business owner, so you are communicating with him from the first email or phone call, throughout your tour until and after he drops you off home or in town.

Now in our 12th year, we are very proud to be the company who took the risk to redefine the Nelson tour experience, raising the bar to produce a fun, flexible, relaxed and personalised style tour that exceeds our customers’ expectations.

Nelson Wine Tour – Half Day Tour of Nelson Wineries

Price:  $140 per person

Tour Duration:   Half Day 5 Hours
Includes: All wine tastings. Lunch at own cost, we stop for lunch at a vineyard
Areas explored (2 of 4 unique areas):  Waimea Plains, Moutere Hills, Kina Cliffs and Riwaka.

Marlborough Wine Tour – Full Day Tour of Marlborough Vineyards
Nelson to Marlborough & Return

Includes:  All wine and chocolate tastings, a gourmet shared platter and a glass of wine
Areas explored: Wairau Plains and Southern Valleys.

Marlborough started the modern New Zealand wine revolution in the 1970’s with new methods of producing exquisite Sauvignon Blanc, among other varieties, with techniques being adopted from the dairy industry’s refrigeration technologies.  This led to confidence that New Zealand could in-fact produce interesting wine.

Today, Marlborough represents 80% total vineyard area in New Zealand.  The contrast between hot sunny days and cool nights helps extend the ripening period more so here than anywhere else in New Zealand.

Marlborough is located one hour and twenty minutes drive east of Nelson City. The Tour departs from your Nelson accommodation at 9.45am and starts with a bit of sightseeing as this drive takes you through some interesting places on the way to Marlborough’s wine region.

Winery visits are flexible and include up to 5 vineyards, you can suggest some vineyards if you like, but your guide has carefully planned and timed some of the most excellent vineyards in Marlborough to try, each one with a different style and atmosphere.

Lunch is normally a local gourmet platter from Giesen Estate vineyard, we can match any dietary requirements if needed, this is included in the tour price.  Also included after lunch is an optional visit to Makana Boutique Chocolate Factory where you can sample chocolates and watch the chocolate making process.

We will return back in Nelson at approximately 5:30pm after a fantastic fun day out!!

Hop ‘n’ Cider Adventure with a few sips of Wine

Brewing beer in Nelson Tasman dates back to the early German settlers in the 1840’s, they chose the Upper Moutere for it’s ideal hop growing conditions and location to establish New Zealand’s oldest pub/hotel along the old Cobb and Co highway.

Established orchards with many verities of apples, pears, kiwifruit, cherries, boysenberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and feijoa is what Tasman Bay is also known for and summer is a great time to taste them in different ways, you’ll be trying some of these verities as ciders.

The 2019 Hop harvest here in Nelson Tasman was a record breaker with the highest hop yield to date, we now grow just over 2% of the hops on the planet!  CJ reckons ” There has never been a better time to be a beer or cider drinker as a visitor or local”.
