More Information About The Waimangu Volcanic Valley and Steaming Cliffs Kayak Tour:

Meeting Point & Timing

  • Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the meeting time at the Rotorua Information Centre.
  • Allow approximately 5 hours for the round trip, including travel time to and from Rotorua.

Weather Policy

  • We will notify you in advance if weather conditions are unsuitable for the tour. However, if regulations allow, the tour will proceed.
  • Mother Nature sometimes wins, but we’ll do our best to ensure your adventure is safe and enjoyable.

Age & Supervision

  • Suitable for participants aged 5 years and above.
  • Guests aged 16 years and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult aged 18 years or older.

Kayak Information

  • We use two-person sit-on-top kayaks, with a combined weight limit of 220kg per kayak.

What to bring:

  • To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend bringing the following:

    • A towel
    • Bottled water
    • A packed lunch (optional; food is also available for purchase at the Waimangu Café).
    • Credit card, cash, or EFTPOS for food and drinks at the café.
    • A waterproof camera (carried at your own risk).
    • Clothing appropriate for the season:
      • Summer (November to March): Quick-drying exercise clothing and a warm jumper.
      • Winter (April to October): Pants/leggings for the lower half and at least three layers for the upper half (thermal, fleece, or wool).
    • A rain jacket if rain is expected.
    • Optional: A change of clothes (just in case).
    • A smile and a sense of adventure!
