Ketetahi One Way Morning Shuttle

Pick up: 6:30 am – 7:30 am  &  8:30 am

This option is perfect if you want to finish the hike at your own car.

  • Drive and park at the Ketetahi car park in the morning

  • One-way shuttle to the Mangatepopo trailhead

  • Hike the crossing back to your car at Ketetahi

  • No waiting for buses at the end of the day

Security guards are available at the Ketetahi car park during the summer months.

Turangi Return Shuttle

 $110.00 per person return shuttle
Pick up: 5:15 am 

Ideal for walkers staying in or around Tūrangi, close to Tongariro National Park.

  • Pick-up from selected accommodation in Turangi or the Turangi Information Centre
  • Transport to the Mangatepopo trailhead

  • Allowance of 7–8 hours for the hike
  • Afternoon pick-up from Ketetahi (around 3:00 pm or as advised by the driver)
  • Return transport to your original pick-up location

Turangi is approximately 45 minutes from the start of the track and around 20 minutes from Ketetahi at the end of the day.

Tongariro Alpine Crossing DOC Pass – Required Before You Walk

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is managed by Department of Conservation (DOC) in partnership with Ngāti Hikairo ki Tongariro to ensure the track remains safe, sustainable, and culturally respected.

This iconic hike passes through a fragile alpine environment and an area of deep cultural significance. Growing visitor numbers place pressure on the landscape, facilities, and cultural values of Tongariro. To help protect this special place for future generations, DOC has introduced visitor management measures, including a mandatory DOC Pass for all walkers.
