Fox Glacier doesn’t need a big budget to enjoy properly — several of the area’s best experiences cost nothing at all.
Lake Matheson
Distance: 2.6 km loop (~1.5 hrs), or a shorter 45-minute return to the Jetty viewpoint · Starting point: Lake Matheson car park, 5 km down Cook Flat Road
The classic mirror reflections of Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mt Tasman make this one of the most photographed free walks in the country.
Good idea: visit early morning before the wind picks up, for the stillest water and clearest reflection.
Fox Glacier South Side Walkway (Glacier Lookout)
