Road Trips Around New Zealand

A road trip is one of the best ways to experience New Zealand, and often the only way to properly see it. Distances that look small on a map can take you through several completely different landscapes in a single day — farmland to mountains, rainforest to glacier, alpine lake to golden tussock country. Rather than trying to cover everywhere at once, we’ve broken the country down into individual driving routes, each with the detail you need to plan it properly: what to see, where to stop, how long to allow, and honest advice on what’s genuinely worth your time versus what you can safely skip.

Some of these routes connect directly to one another, so if you’re planning a longer journey, you can follow several in sequence — Christchurch to Greymouth, Greymouth to Haast, and Haast to Wanaka already link together into one continuous South Island crossing, with more routes being added as we cover them.
