Take a relaxing cruise out to Ruby Island with an gentle photo walk included. Leaving from the Wanaka lakefront, take a gentle cruise out to Ruby Island aboard our luxury 16m catamaran. Dual Image will pull into a secluded beach and put guests ashore via her hydraulic bow ramp. Your walk around the island is self-guided and suitable for all ages. Discover the intriguing history dating back to the days of prohibition along with some great photo opportunities.

Often called the jewel of Wanaka, Ruby is small but very photogenic. The eclectic mix of exotic and native plants adds a foreground to the colors of the lake and the mountains behind.

This cruise takes a leisurely 40 minute boat trip out to Stevensons Peninsula and then into Stevensons Arm, home to Mount Burke high country sheep station. Rolling green pastures precede Mount Gold and Mount Burke which rise majestically into the eastern skyline. Along the way our knowledgeable crew will share some of the history, biology and points of interest of the surrounding area.

Relax in comfort as you cruise up the arm to Stevensons Island where Dual Image will make a beach landing. Our guide will take you ashore via our front loading ramp for a short hike to the summit of the Island and some excellent photo opportunities. As a Department of Conservation reserve, the 65 Ha Island is home to many species of birds that are hard to see elsewhere in NZ. Native Wood Pigeon, South Island Tomtit, Brown Creepers, Grey Warblers and Rifleman are just some of the species you may encounter.

The island is also an inspiration for photographers- shaped by eons of winds that funnel down the arm, rock and twisted trunks meld into a patina of nature’s finest backdrops. Your experience is complete with afternoon tea and another 40 minute scenic cruise back to the Wanaka waterfront.

Mou Waho Island is a predator free Department of Conservation reserve and home to many native birds not seen on mainland NZ. Here you can see first-hand results of conservation efforts including the rare flightless Buff Weka (extinct on the mainland since 1920), the wood pigeon and the native falcon. A one hour guided bush walk is included which takes you up to a lake right on top of the island and magnificent mountain and lake scenery in every direction. Our guides will share some of the ecology and fascinating history of this entrancing island.

On returning to our luxury 16m catamaran you can enjoy morning tea aboard and a relaxed cruise back to civilization.

Lake Wanaka Cruises – Happy Hour Cruise

Let’s face it, this is just a bit of fun with some great hosts! Relax with a glass of chilled Pinot Gris and chat to fellow travellers as you absorb the mountain scenery in the evening light! This one hour luxury cruise has one local wine or beer and our NZ cheese board included in the ticket and is a great way to see the lake scenery before your evening meal. The cruise is fully licensed so further drinks can be purchased on board.

Cruise down the Wanaka waterfront and over toward the ‘Wanaka Tree’ before tracking up to Waterfall Creek and Ruby Island. We then head across to Stevensons Peninsula before returning via Beacon Point and Eley Point. ……..  The perfect end to a great day or the perfect beginning to a great night.
