There is no shortage of stunning views, places to see and activities to tick off in Queenstown. And unless you plan on staying for a year, you can’t possibly see and do everything.
However, as a minimum, we believe that no trip to Queenstown is complete without taking in some incredible views, visiting charming Arrowtown, sampling some tasty local wine and at least observing some of the most popular adventure activities Queenstown is famous for.
Here at Altitude, we have hand-picked what we believe are the top local spots and combined them into an epic, half day sightseeing experience.
Start the tour off with a pick up from central Queenstown and travel in style in our luxury Mercedes vans to an observation point where you can take in one of the best panoramic views in Queenstown.
After capturing some incredible photos, your next stop is the quaint old gold mining township of Arrowtown. On the twenty minute scenic drive from Queenstown the tour will pass over the narrow Edith Cavell bridge and the Shotover River below where you’ll catch a glimpse of the world famous Shotover Jet boat whizzing past.
Free time in Arrowtown allows a browse through the shops, perhaps a delicious gourmet pie from the local bakery or you might even find your fortune gold panning at the historic Dudley’s cottage.
Travel then to Gibbston for a scenic stop and a brief visit to the world’s first commercial bungy operation started by AJ Hackett himself in the mid 80’s.
Suspended over the Kawarau river, the bungy bridge offers some very entertaining spectating opportunities. The region is also home to some Middle-earth magic (Lord of the rings film locations) and becoming increasingly famous for its world class cold climate wine.
Next stop is Stoneridge estate, a beautiful castle like cellar door with exquisite gardens and jaw dropping views over Lake Hayes and to the mountains beyond.
Here you’ll have the opportunity to do some wine tasting (non-alcoholic substitutes available) and enjoy a shared cheeseboard.
And we’re not finished there, on the way back to Queenstown transfer from land to lake, with a picturesque thirty minute scenic boat cruise on Lake Wakatipu, ending your tour at the wharf in the heart of town.
On this entertaining and informative half day tour you will travel in unparalleled comfort with our luxury vehicles playing unique on board videos through a drop down tv screen and complimentary wifi onboard. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the stunning scenery our local guides will show you.
