“We did the Beach Loop Track. We had both an electric bike and a normal one (between a group). The normal bike wasn’t too intense – it was manageable even for someone with slightly below average fitness. The bikes are equipped with backpacks and a small basket on the handles. The scenery was beautiful – through farms, fields, over bridges and through a tunnel on a beautiful, peaceful day. Geoff was a great guide, sharing how he started this adventure and details about the local area. The lookout provided beautiful views of some of the bluest water I have seen, and even some baby goats made a cameo appearance. Would definitely recommend

“Such a great day out, awesome host and good kōrero on some local history – and you even get to see Whareongaonga (where Te Kooti arrived).”

“It was awesome! Did the Beach Loop and the views along the way are amazing. The lookout at the top is beautiful. Bring snacks – big bags and a basket on the bike are provided. Literally, half the ride back is downhill so you don’t need to pedal. There’s even a portaloo stop halfway. Unique and a great way to get out in nature and enjoy yourself. Jeff is the best – knowledgeable and sporting a nice head of hair.”

“This rail bike adventure was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. We took the Beach Loop as an excursion from a cruise, booked independently of the cruise line. My wife and I, both 82 years old but in good health, rode side-by-side on tandem e-bicycles with about a dozen other people to a gorgeous lookout over Poverty Bay, where Captain Thomas Cook first discovered New Zealand. The bay scene is strikingly similar to California’s Big Sur, and the rest of the scenery was equally memorable – from cornfields to rolling hillsides dotted with sheep and virgin forests with massive ferns. A well-maintained outdoor toilet is available halfway, and our taxi on the return even took us to a vineyard for a personal tour. Highly recommended!”

“We’ve now experienced the two longer rail trail rides and they are not to be missed. Geoff and Glen were outstanding – not only did they provide an amazing trip, but they also shared a lot of local history and insights into the development of the trails. Thanks to you both for a great time.”

“This is a great experience and a perfect activity for a work team. Glen, our guide, was local and we learnt so much about our own back yard. The bikes are comfy and easy to ride, suitable for all levels of fitness. The scenery changes dramatically in such a short space of time. Highly recommend this adventure.”

“Absolutely Awesome! The only trip of its kind currently in the world. We did the Beach Loop ride, which is 32km and takes around 3.5 hours. I wasn’t in peak fitness and was a bit worried about signing up, but it was fantastic – especially with the Ebike option. There were only 4 of us on the tour, and Jeff (apologies if I misspelled his name) set up the bikes perfectly for each of our levels. There were several stops along the way, including a bathroom break halfway. The scenery is gorgeous – with many bridges, farmland, waterways, an old railworker’s hut, and two tunnels (one requiring bike lights). The view from the top is breathtaking. My thighs did have a slight sting that afternoon, but it was gone the next day. Highly recommend any of the 3 available rides. We’ll definitely be doing another one when we return.”

“Geoff was an interesting and very personable guide as he led us along a disused railway track through beautiful farmland, forests, tunnels, and finally to a headland with magnificent sea views. It’s a creative and ingenious undertaking of Geoff’s – the well-maintained bikes are coupled together to ensure a safe, easy ride along the rails. Such fun and highly recommended for all biking abilities (18+). Geoff is a humble, community-minded individual who is proud of his small company and how it brings tourists to Gisborne. Thank you for a memorable day out exploring beautiful Gisborne.”
