How Long Is the Shotover Jet Ride?

The Shotover Jet Queenstown ride lasts approximately 25 minutes on the water. During this time, expert drivers power through the narrow Shotover River canyons, performing thrilling 360° spins and high-speed manoeuvres.

Allow around 1 hour in total for the full experience, including check-in, safety briefing and gear fitting. If you are travelling from central Queenstown, allow additional time for transport to the Shotover Jet base, located about 10–15 minutes from town.

For peak travel periods, arriving at least 30 minutes before departure is recommended.

What Should You Wear on the Shotover Jet?

Shotover Jet provides waterproof spray jackets and life jackets, so you don’t need specialised gear.

We recommend:

  • Closed, secure footwear (no loose sandals)
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for the season
  • Sunglasses (with a strap recommended)
  • In summer: light layers and sun protection
  • In winter: warm clothing and a windproof outer layer
  • You may get slightly wet, so avoid delicate fabrics and bring a change of clothes if needed. Cameras and phones should be secured safely, as water spray is common during the ride.

Arrival Time
Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure for check-in and safety briefing.

Complimentary Shuttle
Free transport is available for select departures (10:00am, 11:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm). Shuttle seats must be pre-booked.
Check in at the Station Building in Queenstown 45 minutes before your ride if using the shuttle.

Clothing Tips
Waterproof jackets are provided.
Summer: Sunglasses and light layers recommended.
Winter: Warm clothing, gloves and windproof outer layers advised. Riders may get lightly sprayed during spins and canyon runs, but waterproof jackets are provided to keep you comfortable during the ride.

Cameras & Phones
Handheld cameras are not permitted onboard for safety reasons. Professional photos are available for purchase after your ride.

The total Shotover Jet Queenstown experience takes around 1 hour, including check-in, safety briefing and gear fitting. The jet boat ride itself lasts approximately 25 minutes on the Shotover River, racing through narrow canyon walls and performing famous 360° spins.

Dress for the weather and wear secure, closed footwear. Waterproof spray jackets and lifejackets are provided. In summer bring sun protection and sunglasses; in winter wear warm layers and windproof clothing. Riders may get lightly sprayed during the ride.

Most riders stay relatively dry thanks to the waterproof jackets provided, but you may get lightly sprayed during spins and canyon runs on the Shotover River.

For safety reasons handheld cameras, phones and GoPros are not permitted onboard. Professional onboard cameras capture your ride, and photos or video packages are available to purchase after the experience.

Due to high-speed turns and occasional bumps, the ride is not recommended during pregnancy or for guests with recent back, neck or heart conditions. If unsure, check with staff before booking.

Free parking is available at the Shotover Jet base at Arthurs Point. Shuttle transport from central Queenstown is available for selected departures and must be arranged when booking.
