Zipline Adventure Tours - Rotorua Canopy Tours

Award-winning for a reason: Rotorua Canopy Tours—People’s Choice Best Experience in NZ (two years straight)—pairs family-friendly ziplines with conservation storytelling in ancient forest.

Zipline Through Ancient New Zealand Forest at Rotorua Canopy Tours

Zipline into an ancient forest with Rotorua Canopy Tours – where real adventure meets real conservation in Ōkoheriki, a rare, ancient native forest coming back to life. Guided by their “superhero” guides, you’ll fly between treetop platforms up to seven storeys high, cross suspended swing bridges, and hear the birdsong the conservation work is bringing back.
Small groups keep it personal and safe; every visit helps fund year-round predator control and forest restoration, so you’re part of something bigger than a remarkable ancient forest adventure.
We offer two epic ways to fly: the Original Canopy Tour (the classic, feel-alive journey through the canopy) and the Ultimate Canopy Tour (a step-up with faster, longer, steeper lines). Pick the adventure that suits you adventure level, both deliver unforgettable views, warm Kiwi hosting, and free photos so you can stay in the moment.

FAQ's - Rotorua Canopy Tours

Q: What’s the difference between the Original and Ultimate tours?

A: Original is a gentler, nature-rich journey with multiple ziplines and swing bridges through ancient native forest. Ultimate is more adrenaline: longer, faster lines, added features like a cliff-walk and a tandem zip, and more exposure. Pick Original for first-timers; Ultimate for extra thrill.

Q: How long do the tours take?

A: The Original Canopy Tour is about 2.5 hours from check-in to return. The Ultimate Canopy Tour is approximately 3 hours. Please arrive on time for briefing and gear-up at HQ, and allow a little buffer for check-in and the forest transfer.

Q: Is there an age, height, or weight restriction?

A: Original: minimum age 6. Ultimate: minimum age 10. Maximum weight for both tours is 120 kg. There’s no minimum height. Guests aged 15 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult on the same tour.

Q: Do I need to be super fit—or okay with heights?

A: No special fitness required. The course builds confidence gradually and guides support you at every step. If you’re very nervous with heights, start with the Original. The Ultimate has bigger heights and speed—best for those wanting more intensity.

Q: Do tours run in all weather?

A: Yes, tours operate in most conditions. The forest is especially atmospheric in the rain, and high-quality wet-weather gear is provided if needed. If conditions are unsafe (e.g., high winds), departures may be delayed or rescheduled for safety.

Q: What should I wear and bring?

A: Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable, weather-appropriate layers. Tie back long hair, secure sunglasses, and avoid loose items. Wet-weather or warm outer layers are provided when required. Bring your booking confirmation; valuables can be stored securely at HQ.

Q: Are photos included?

A: Yes—free digital photos are included with both tours. Guides capture the best moments so you can focus on the experience. You’ll receive a link to download your images after your tour.

Q: Where do the tours start? Is there transport?

A: Check in at Rotorua Canopy Tours HQ, 147 Fairy Springs Road, a few minutes from central Rotorua. You’ll gear up here and transfer to the forest with your guides. If you require transport, check options when booking.

Q: What’s the cancellation policy?

A: Generally, cancellations or changes outside 24 hours of your tour time are free. Within 24 hours, full charges may apply and changes depend on availability. If you booked via a reseller, please check your confirmation for exact terms.

Q: Is it suitable during pregnancy or with medical conditions?

A: The tour is not recommended during pregnancy. If you have recent injuries, heart, neck or back issues, or other medical concerns, consult your clinician and advise the operator before booking so they can guide you appropriately.

Q: How big are the groups?

A: Tours run in small groups so guides can keep you safe and share the conservation story. Exact group sizes vary by departure; families and friends are kept together where possible.

Q: Can I bring a phone or GoPro?

A: Small devices may be allowed if they can be securely attached (e.g., wrist or helmet mount) and used only when guides say it’s safe. Your included photos mean you won’t miss the key shots.

Q: Are there toilets on the course?

A: Toilets are available at HQ before departure. There are no facilities on the forest course itself, so please use the bathroom before gearing up.

Q: What’s included in my ticket?

A: Professional guiding, all safety equipment, transfers between HQ and the forest, wet-weather gear if required, free digital photos, and a conservation contribution supporting predator control and forest restoration.

Q: How does my ticket support conservation?

A: Every booking contributes to predator control and long-term forest restoration, which is bringing native birdlife back. Your guides will share the conservation story as you zip through the canopy.
