From start to finish, we are off the beaten path, with no people, truly remote, truly stunning. Boat through the calm waters of Lake Wanaka’s Stevenson’s arm, a constantly changing vista of steep walls and jagged peaks leads to a small beach where you will disembark to board our 4×4 vehicle.
Climbing high above the lake, your views expand until all of Lake Wanaka lays beneath you in a stunning panorama of sparkling blue water and rows of rugged alpine peaks.
Your guide will enlighten you with tales of the early settlers, the gold miners here to find their fortunes and the fascinating geological history of the area.

Your trip starts at the marina by boating up Lake Wanaka towards the head of Stevenson’s arm with tremendous views of glacier-carved mountains and a constantly changing vista of steep walls and alpine peaks. We cruise past Stevenson’s Island to our landing point at the foot of Mt Burke.
Boarding our 4×4 Vehicle, we climb above the lake. Your view expands until all of Lake Wanaka lays before you in a stunning panorama of crystal clear blue water and the alpine peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park.
Take some time to enjoy the solitude and enjoy the best view in Wanaka! Your guide will give you an insight into the history of the farm station, the geology of the alps, and some of the stories of the early settlers who sought farmland, gold and a better life here in the mountains of New Zealand.

Water Taxi Mou Waho Island Tour
Price: $125 pp – Child: $60 pp
Departs: Twice daily at 10 am & 2 pm
Duration: Allow 3 hours.
Come and join us on a trip to our favourite place on Lake Wanaka, Mou Waho Island. You will find a lake on an island that is on a lake.
Mou Waho Island is a protected nature reserve home to many native New Zealand birds, including the curious and flightless Weka.
A short walk takes you to the island’s top, where you will be amazed at the breathtaking panoramic views of the Arethusa pool, Lake Wanaka and its surrounding peaks.
Our water taxi leaves Wanaka Marina twice daily, travelling 15km up Lake Wanaka, passing Mou Tapu Island and the cliff of fisherman’s cove to Mou Waho Island.
Your friendly and knowledgeable skipper will inform you of the fascinating geology of the alps and the glaciers that created the lake as you travel along its sparkling waters.
Stay for 1.5 hours on the island before heading back to shore, or go in the morning and spend the day as you please before catching the afternoon taxi home.

Visiting Mou Waho island in the morning, you get a chance to stretch your legs as you hike to the Arethusa pool, enjoy the bird life on the island and experience the lake from water level.
After a break for lunch, our 4X4 Explorer propels you above the lake to the high alpine of Mt Burke and views that will take your breath away.
Looking down on Mou Waho island, trace the steps of your morning hike, enjoy a picnic and glass of local wine, relax and enjoy the stunning alpine vista.
