Abel Tasman kayaks Freedom Hire & Guided Tours

Kahu Kayaks is a  Kiwi kayak company headquartered in Marahau that has a wealth of experience leading guided kayaking tours in the Abel Tasman National Park. 

We provide a variety of kayaking experiences, both guided and unguided, as well as kayak canoe rentals. Guided kayak excursions through a breathtaking stretch of coastline for an unforgettable sea kayaking experience. 

Enjoy panoramic views of Abel Tasman National Park and observe nesting cormorants, sea caves, islands, and the internationally renowned Split Apple Rock. Our Abel Tasman freedom kayaking package gives you the opportunity to explore the coast at your own speed, taking in all of its beautiful views, natural attractions, and outdoor activities.

Freedom Kayaking in the Abel Tasman

Freedom kayaking in the Abel Tasman gives you the independence to see the wonders of the coastline at your own pace. 

We will equip you with everything you need to have an enjoyable and safe sea kayaking experience, NOTE: for two or more people, Double Kayaks used unless group has uneven number.

All freedom kayaking packages include the following:

  • A comprehensive kayak briefing before your kayak trip starts.
  • Instruction on the use of sea kayak equipment.
  • Kayak safety briefing along with expected weather and sea conditions in the Abel Tasman.
  • A kayak guide will accompany you for the start of your sea kayak journey to help with kayak technique and give any final advice to make your adventure safe and fun!

We are also happy to help with ideas for packing your kayak and trip itinerary.

Paddle from Marahau to Anchorage, where you can walk back to Marahau or spend the night at Anchorage.

Three Day Freedom Kayak & Water Taxi Return

Kayak with Freedom for three days all the way up to Onetahuti, and then at the conclusion of the third day, hop aboard our Abel Tasman water taxi service for the voyage back.

Two Day Freedom Kayak & Walk

Price:  $175 per person

Duration:   Two Days kayak & walk

Freedom Kayak for two days, working your way north from our base in Marahau towards Bark Bay or Onetahuti. Swap your kayak for your pack and spend a day or two walking back.

HOW TO BOOK A DOC CAMP PASS

All campsites and huts in the Abel Tasman National Park must be booked in advance through the Department of Conservation (DOC) website. 

You need to plan your trip / itinerary in advance and select which campsites you wish to stay at while you are in the park, and book them accordingly. 

(Important to note that the northern kayak limit is Shag Harbour, so you can’t camp any further north than Onetahuti unless you’re walking)

Go to the Department of Conservation website: www.doc.govt.nz then click the yellow ‘Book online’ button

You will need to create and account (click the ‘create account’ link) and create a login with a username and password.
